Tatum Ranch Golf Club
About
The course at Tatum Ranch Golf Club is a true desert course due to its placement adjacent to the beautiful Sonoran Desert. The course has a target-style design that features subtly rolling fairways and greens that are large and undulating. Water hazards come into play, some in the form of ponds. There are also several sand bunkers strategically placed throughout but especially around the greens. The course is a challenge, but it offers a fun, fair game for golfers of all skill levels. Its location near residential areas causes the occasional appearance of homes on the course. Tatum Ranch Golf Club's signature hole is the par-3 11th hole, which requires great control. Although the hole is not long, it is difficult with a narrow, guarded green.

Very busy in season, Beautiful property-Forgiving
An enjoyable round, a very walkable course green to tee, clearly designed for the Seasonal visitor to have a "good and easy game". Very forgiving wide fairways and minimal sand with water in play only on #7. Approaches aren't the most challenging, but #9 really shines. #5 is well chosen as number one handicap hole, almost out of place compared to the mediocrity of the rest of the course. Sand traps tended to be hard pan on the bottom. The slope is over rated.
Overall a nice coarse, but like many heavily played courses, the greens take a beating form discourteous wannabe golfers that have no concept of ball mark repair and respect for the course. Unfortunately, this isn't a problem exclusive to Tatum Ranch. Daytime play is slow and heavy, 4.5-5 hours is the norm unless you're out last for the afternoon and play the front twice, easily sub 3.5 hours for 4 on carts or sub 3 hours for 2 on carts.
Staff was generally friendly and helpful.
The Practice facility is excellent which includes a grass range, two putting greens, as well as a green for chipping and bunker practice.
PS--There is no convenient access to the pro shop through the front of the club house as it also houses a bar and restaurant, the pro shop is actually on the course side of the restaurant. One needs to walk to the end of the parking lot and circumnavigate the restaurant to access checkin and the starter.
If you want to stay private, then don't invite the public
Great course, superb shape, but the staff made us feel very unwelcome. To the point that we stopped after 9 holes.
If you can overcome that, them it is good value.
Great condition
This golf course is in great shape. The greens were running at about 12 or 13 on the stemp meter. The staff very friendly & helpful. We played in about 4 hrs in perfect weather conditions.
Will be back if the price is around 50 or 60 dollars. The regular price a little to high for the average golfer. All concedering a great day.
Friendly semi private
Both the members and staff were very friendly. Course was in good shape. Layout is great for a small piece of land. Designer Bob Cupp did a great job making this the most fair desert layout i have played. The greens demand precise approach shots even with the absence of greenside sand traps. Really fun layout.
Loved the whole place.
great facility, club house and pro shop. i will look for this course again and again on golfnow, com in the future when i am back in the area. thanks for listing it or i would never have played there!
Club house, staff, snack shack very good
Even though they had a frost delay we actually started at our tee time, 12:03PM. Staff was great getting everyone out. Greens were great, very fast. Fairways also in great shape. We had a great time, finished in 3 1/2 hours.
Your ball may land on the green but will roll off onto the fringe, into the bunker or back onto the fairway.
Pin placement was challenging as was the roll of the greens.
Challenging sand traps and tricky greens !
Great golf course and fair challenge. We had a beautiful day, staff was great.
A must play before OB sport closes this window.
I can tell you that this course is trying very hard to fill it membership. "Excellent" in every aspect of this course. We played on Monday the 7th 2013 at 9:38 tee time and finished the round in 3:40 mins. You need to bring a desert club as it is playable when your off the fairways" pea gravel " I can tell you this bring your "A" putting game, the greens were rolling at 12. Pool table fast and the other think is that the carts do not have GPS so bring your own GPS or a lazer. You will need it for fast play.
This is a private course so if you can get on, do so. Lastly we did not have a cart girl out on that Monday but we did stop at the turn and the prices were reasonable.
If all OB managed courses are run like this I would play them everyday. Hands down awesome for the price
Beautiful Course
This was a great course for the money! Our tee time was 2:38 pm so we only got to play 12 holes before it got too dark, but those were 12 delightful holes on a beautiful course. So the money we paid was well worth the 12 holes. I'd love to play this course again.
Nice course. Semi private
A nice course with all the amenities of a private course. Good shape with very fast greens. A little pricy for me but we got a great deal on golf now. I would play again if the price is right.
Greens awesome, fairways perfect, spectacular desert views
The course was in great shape, moved along at a good pace (no waiting) and we were treated like royalty by all staff that we encountered. Nicest clubhouse i have seen in a while
Great Shape
Course was in great shape, but they are some of the toughest greens in the valley. Fast, hard and difficult to read.
I like the course and the condition was better than expected.
I will play this course again if the special golf fee is about the same. Standard rate is too high.
Good quality course for the money and very playable for a range of handicaps
The course was in excellent condition with faster than normal greens. The course is very playable but is challenging enough for single digit handicappers. It is a very good course for a range of handicaps. It will not frustrate your golf game or your wallet. One of the best values in the Phoenix area for the quality.
Nice Desert Course
Tatum Ranch is a semi-private course that provides many upscale amenities, geared primarily for its members. The course is well-maintained with interesting hole layouts. There is much undulation in the fairways which are carved out of the desert. The fairways are not too narrow but you may find it difficult to recover from errant shots. A few water holes adds another dimension of challenge. The greens are large, fast and true. Some feature an upper tiers or collection zones, making your approach shot and landing all the more important. While Tatum Ranch may not offer the spectacular views that mountainside courses in the area feature, I enjoyed the round. Even though it is quite a drive from the city, for the right price, I could be tempted to return.
great diversity
excelent conditions and challenge freindly staff and a great golf course
Great Layout
A classic layout that is both challenging and fair. A bad shot is penalized but missing the fairway by 10 yards is not punished.
