Villa de Paz Golf Course was voted the top affordable 18-hole course in the Valley of the Sun, according to the Arizona Republic. The parkland course challenges top golfers, though it's not so difficult that beginners will wish they'd golfed elsewhere. After a 2002 remodel, the par-71 course measures 6,700 yards and offers water on 10 holes. If Phoenix in summertime intimidates, fear not: at Villa de Paz Golf Course, shade abounds, due to mature trees lining several fairways. Shoot for birdies or eagles, do so, but wisely. Reward has risk. Shooting sharply is especially required on holes like the fourth, a par-4 450-yarder with a severe right dogleg. Hitters dig the seventh, eighth and 15th, par 4s that can be nailed from the tee. The 18th mixes distance and skill. The par-4 470-yarder doglegs right and requires a carry over a lake to reach the three-tiered green. Fancy a warm-up before the Villa de Paz Golf Course? Not Much of a Course
Not expensive, $28 for 18, but you get what you pay for. Certainly not worth more than $25. Wouldn't go back.

Poor Conditions
Most fairways have sparse grass. Greens were good.

Can't beat it for value
Most affordable golf in the area. Don't know what everybody's complaining about , as I have paid double to play courses no better than VDP. The course was in good shape. Greens were fine and rolled true. Didn't have to wait at all. Sure, the carts are old and the bathrooms are, well, if you've played there you know. But I don't play to be pampered. Everything worked so I'm happy. Winter golf here is prohibitive. It's GREAT having an AFFORDABLE course nearby. Play here again? Heck yeah!

#3,4,10,16 and18 can challenge the putter
probably just me but this course challenges me on most holes. course knowledge helps. #4,10, and 18 are the ones where precise shots save strokes.
Terrible
I've played this course quite a few times in the past but it's been a while, I never have high expectations at Villa because... well its Villa, never been a really nice course and a very ugly neighborhood, I can't believe how the course has declined, the tee boxes are all chewed up, there is almost no green on the course, most grass is dead, hit a decent drive and it runs right off the fairways, there is much more brown than green on the course and most areas are bumpy and knotted grass, the course was like a big mud puddle all over, hasn't rained in over a week but there is mud and wet all over... the carts are tearing up the course around the greens because people drive right up to them, speaking of carts... they need to be replaced, nobody fixes their divits on the course or greens, nobody rakes the bunkers I'm sure because of course condition, not many players out there but still slow play, had to pass two 5-some groups out there and another group all shooting 120 plus and yelling wouldn't let us pass. What a disappointment, absolutely no money put back into this course. Terrible day and wouldn't play again

Great value golf
You get too play with some down to earth golfers, golf at a great value an pace. Fun, low key and a down right good place too play a round of golf an practice with nice easy going people. Who just wanna play golf.

Keep Expectations in Line
VdP is a bit tired but still fun to play...especially when you finish in under 4 hours with a noon tee time! Fairways are spotty but greens are decent. Carts are nearing their end of life but still serviceable. The housing surrounding the course is interesting for all sorts of reasons. GREAT value!

You get what you pay for
This course was billed as being one of the least expensive courses in the area. Unfortunately with cheap comes lousy course conditions. The fairways were sparse and the pin placements ridiculous. The best thing about the course was the beer cart lady came around a lot. I'm not a golf purist but, in golf technical terms; it was icky.

Could be a Great Course
I was somewhat taken back by the overall course condition. It appeared, the maintenance level was not up to speed. Overall appearance is "run down". One of the toilets was in bad need of repair or replacement. The irrigation system appears it needs some TLC. This course could be among the Classics with a bit of work.

Some narrow driving holes & long par 3s
I felt the staff was very welcoming and were grateful we took the time to play their course. I liked the majority of the layout of the course. Unfortunately, the winter grass did not come in very well. Very thin and in some places not at all. The trees are in sad shape. The course needs a lot of TLC! Signage for the course was limited. In some cases we were not sure we were going to the correct tee box. The pace of play was outstanding and there was a person who appeared to be a ranger on the course checking out play. The condition of the greens was very consistent and rolled very well. Pin placement was difficult.
No ranger
We enjoyed the course as first timers. A bit rustic in spots but overall we enjoyed it. The group in front of us was very slow and fell several holes behind the group in front of them. No rangers to speed things up though.

Overseeding process was complete, fairways and greens are not in the best of shape, greens are spotty and bumpy

Just reseeded not very good shape
Course had recently been reseeded not in very good shape. Greens were in poor shape. I will wait a couple of weeks and give them another try , before making my mind up on playing this course again.

Need course rangers
I was looking for a course that was in good condition for this time of year and where I would routinely grab for my driver on each hole.
The course was in fair condition. The fairways were a bit long. Sometimes hard to differentiate between the rough and fairway in some areas. Greens were moderately challenging for me (first year really getting into golf), so that was nice.
My issue was the pace of play.
I practiced on the putting green awaiting my 12:07 tee time. I'm not sure when these other guys' tee time was, but they pulled up their cart and teed off at noon. There was no ranger operating the start times.
I didn't care much, teed off shortly after, and finished the par 4 to see they were teeing up on the next hole, a par 3. I hoped they would eventually let me play through.
Still after six holes, no offer was made and they instead combined with two others. Maybe I'm too kind, but I didn't think it was courteous for me to ask if I could play through.
I had paid for 18, but this foursome ahead of me got stuck behind another foursome to start the 10th. I was hoping to play all 18 in about 3 hours, but I reached the three-hour mark after the nine holes.
Because I had other things to do on Saturday, I packed up and left. My round was going poorly anyhow, but it's hard to find a rhythm when you're waiting so long before each shot.
The course is 30 miles away from me and I am only able to golf on the weekends, so I probably will not come back.
