Grand Canyon University Golf Course
About
Grand Canyon University Golf Course (formerly known as Maryvale Municipal Golf Course) offers an 18-hole track designed by Ted Robinson, Sr. and built in 1961. The par-71 golf course measures 7,269 yards from the championship tees and is open year-round.
The Bermuda grass Grand Canyon University Golf Course gets plenty of shade during the summer, thanks to several onsite trees, and features flat and wide fairways.
The fourth hole, for one example, is a 160-yard par-3 where you'll have to shoot over the water - and past the brick wall that separates the green from the water.

GCU Golf
Love the layout! Clubhouse is excellent and staff is friendly. Some of the nicest greens around.
Hidden gem
I love this course because it is both challenging and fair. They have well maintained sand traps you really should avoid. Staff is great and it is one of my go to courses!
Vacation
Pulled this one off of Golf Now and was very satisfied and enjoyed our round of golf. A little slow but it was a Friday , but would definitely one back.
No water on the course.
Course is in good shape overall. Since it was over 100 degrees on a Thursday the course wasn’t too crowded so pace on the front 9 was really good then on the back 9 a three-some was playing extremely slow. The negative about this course is that there was only one hole with water and no beverage cart.
Need Gps
Front nine great but no GPS but then the back nine was mostly sand in fairways price was good but again you need gps
Good course, excellent condition
Course was in excellent shape… greens rolled true and fast. Pace of play was extremely slow and some tee boxes were very close to the greens - a lot of “fores”
Ok course
They were sanding the greens and fairways. I wish courses would put on their website when the aeration is going to start. . Poor course conditions but loved the layout. I would play again later in the year
first class experience and didn't break the bank
First time playing out at GCU Golf Course. Greens are in great shape they roll nice and true. A bit on the slower side (rolling about a 10), understandable from what a hot summer it has been in the valley. Staff was very friendly... And the meal afterward was top notch. Overall we really enjoyed our round out at GCU definitely will be back!
Grand Canyon Course
Overall course was not in good shape. Greens were shaggy and slow. There was hundreds of branches and sticks all over course in rough near fairways that were not picked up. Ive played all over in PHX and this was the worst taken care of course I’ve played.
Golf in the rain
Played here when it was drizzling the other day and it was a really enjoyable experience. The pro shop staff were really friendly and got me out on the course very quickly. Was able to tee off ahead of my scheduled time and play as a single. Given the rain we got the night before and that day, the course looked good with only a couple spots of standing water in low lying areas. The course overall was alive and well from tee box to green. Nice driving range with grass to hit from. Will definitely be back again to play this course.
GCU August 2023
Conditions were overall good. Sand on tee boxes and some greens. 8/10 rating. Pace of play was good.
Our yearly golf trip to phoenix, first time we decided to give the GCU course a try. We played 5 courses in 6 days and it was by far the best value. Some of the best greens we played on all week. Overall a great atmosphere out there. Definitely will be added to the rotation next year!
