Faldo at Wildfire Golf Club at Desert Ridge Resort
About
Faldo Championship Course at the Wildfire Golf Club measures as long as 6,846 yards, depending on which tees you're shooting from, and lies on 174 acres and features some differences from the average desert-themed golf courses. Faldo offers abundant fairways, big bentgrass greens and tee boxes, as well as the golf course's neighboring mountains, century-old saguaro cacti and 106 sand bunkers - which remind golfers of Aussie sand-belt golf courses, which gives it a magnificent locale for golfers.
Wildfire Golf Club is much-feted: When the Faldo Championship Course opened, the Arizona Republic selected hole No. 2 among the valley's 18 best. The golf course received recognition among the 2006 Travel & Leisure Golf's "World's Best Golf Resorts" for family getaways and in the 2006 Conde Nast Traveler rundown of the "Top 100 Golf Resorts in North America." These are in addition to the Gold Tee Award from Meetings & Conventions Magazine.

Great Course
Pro shop counter guy was very helpful
For the amount of play this course gets, greens were super nice, course is in great condition! I only hit into 20-25 of the 108 bunkers! Looking forward to my next round here!
Tournament Day Ugh
Try not to book this course on a tournament day because it is completely chaotic. No one was around to assist in parking. The parking gates are really a concern if you haven't played at Wildfire lately. No one to tell you to bring the ticket to get it validated. The staff was coldly efficient but not friendly or helpful. Although I mentioned having a bad back no one offered to help me with my clubs ....an obvious opportunity for a supposedly top level golf club to take care of players. The wait for shuttle service to and from the far parking lot was also frustratingly slow. The courses at Wildfire are really nice (although the sand traps are very difficult ) but the poor customer service was surprising.
Lots of Sand
Played in the rain it was challenging lots of hard bunkers with the crummy weather....I will return
Better options in Scottsdale
As with any Marriot golf expedition it takes a lot of cash to get onto the golf course. This was exceptionally so at Wildfire. For a $250 round of golf, you would expect to be able to find a cup of coffee in the morning and you would expect to see a drink cart more than once a day. Other than that the bunkers are deep and everywhere. The sand is soft so expect to hit some plugged golf approaches. It is a challenging test though! However I would look elsewhere if you are not staying at the JW Marriot.
DAY OF JOY
A TRULY JOYFUL ROUND OF GOLF.
GREAT TRACK
SUPERIOR COURSE CONDITIONS
i HAVE PLAY 40 GOLF COURSES IN AZ (AT LEAST) AND THIS WAS MY FAVORITE ALL AROUND GOLF EXPERIENCE.
DO NOT HESITATE, GO PLAY THIS IF YOU HAVE NOT. IF YOU HAVE, GO BACK TO REMEMBER HOW GOOD IT IS.
JUST A GOLF TOURIST
Superb Staff/ Felt like a private club
Front nine: Too many sand traps. Several holes essentially had forced Carrie’s to greens because of
Multiple traps.
Back nine was way better. Still lots of traps but entry lanes to the greens.
Also, very impressed with the staff.
Advice from a Local - Play This Course!
Both Palmer and Faldo courses will treat you well. Faldo has more features and sand, Palmer has more shape and hidden washes behind hills. Both are fun, challenging, and in decent shape for the time of year we played.
Having played several mod and high level courses in the north valley and Scottsdale area from Troon, TPC Champions, McDowell, Cave Creek and others, the Marriott courses are a great choice and and you get what you pay for. There are some nicer courses, sure. But there are many many more worse courses that cost more!
