Lookout Mountain Golf Club at Pointe Hilton Tapatio Cliffs Resort receives distinctions: Golf Digest placed it among the top 450 U.S. public courses, and it regularly features among Arizona's best 25 golf course. It doesn't hurt that the golf club regularly hosts eye-catching affairs like the Harmon Killebrew Invitational, the Royce Clayton Charity Classic and the Phoenix Suns Scramble. The golf course itself offers lush greens that entwine with the Sonora Desert's terrain, which the golf club says it carefully preserves, and features 18 holes of championship golf in tandem with magnificent scenery and plenty of challenges.

There's a fairly good chance that golfers will catch sight of a quail or coyote out on the Lookout Mountain Golf Club at Pointe Hilton Tapatio Cliffs Resort, and management asks that layers give the critters the right of way. In order to ensure golfers' shots go straight and don't snag in a cactus or chuckwalla, the club offers both individual and group glf lessons. This is also a place to enroll in the Hilton Golf Academy.

That's before the round at the Lookout Mountain Golf Club, though: Afterward, mosey on back to the 19th hole, called the Pointe In Tyme, for the drinkables and eatables.

Overall fantastic course

Was in town with some friends for an extended weekend and played here on a Thursday. Overall this was probably my favorite course that we played (I also played Camelback, Papago, Talking Stick, and TPC Scottsdale). The course was in great shape when we played, a bit wet in the morning but dried out really nicely in the afternoon. The staff were super friendly, someone loaded our bags into our cart before the round and cleaned them after. The range was solid, decent balls, and had bunker practice if you wanted it. Pace of play was a bit slow, especially on the back because of two groups that had coupled up to play as an 8 (which I'm guessing they were not supposed to do). Only real criticism of the course is that the bunkers got really dry and hard in the afternoon but I'm guessing this is a common problem for warm weather golf courses and they were beautiful in the morning.

What a find! Incredible desert/mountain golf course.

The views are amazing. The course is in superb shape. The layout is fun and super-enjoyable. But first you actually have to know how to get there. If you follow the signage and drive into the course, you encounter a sign in the middle of the road that says "If you have a tee time, turn around and go back out to the highway and turn left to the resort." So you're baffled, but you turn around and go back to the highway, turn left, and drive a short ways to a very small sign that says Hilton. Right inside on your left is the clubhouse. You park and drive a golf cart from there to the course. It's weird, and a bit off-putting. You'll start to question your decision to play here. BUT don't worry. The course itself is definitely amazing. The first six holes are pretty easy. Then it gets more fun and progressively more difficult as you work your way up to the peak...and then back down. It is NOT a parkland course. It's carved out of the desert and plays up and down the ravines. Some greens have a lot of break but not like some courses where you aim for 6 feet of break and it breaks 14 feet and runs off the green and down a hill. (I hate those.) Overall, I can't recommend this highly enough. The par 4 10th hole, with its 14-story drop from the tee to the fairway, is one of the most fun I've ever played. Final comment: EVERY SINGLE staff member I encountered...from the pro shop to the starter to the cart guys... were incredibly friendly.

Beautiful course!

Tee boxes, fairways, greens, layout all excellent at Lookout Mountain! Greens run true. Sand traps are beautiful, but try to stay out of them! Views are spectacular! Nice touch that range balls are included with greens fee.

Beautiful Scenery

Absolutely stunning landscape and backdrops. Course came out of overseed beautifully. Heavy rains that morning caused the driving range to close, which was puzzling, but not a big deal. Overall, a well maintained and managed course.

Slow

Slow round on a Monday. Marshall doesn’t enforce pace, so be prepared for at least a 5 hour round - on a weekday!
