San Tan Highlands (formerly known as The Golf Club at Johnson Ranch) boasts a championship course with a front nine that winds through the Sonoran desert and a back nine that finishes at the base of the bordering San Tan Mountains. Naturally, the first half of the golf course is relatively flat and the latter half has a hilly terrain. In contrast to its categorization as a desert course, this course has grass from the tees to the greens but the cactus-filled landscape definitely implies desert. The greens are quite large and undulating and the fairways are fairly open with generous landing areas. Strategically placed sand bunkers and water hazards come into play throughout the San Tan Highlands.

Nice

Fairways and greens are great. Around green some areas are pathetic. Bunkers are pathetic no sand.

Always a fun course

Great condition and great staff as always. The pace of play and price ratings are the same everywhere this time of year.

Fun Round

Contrary to prior reviews, the staff was extremely friendly and helpful, even while hosting a wedding. Course was in reasonably good shape, and beautiful scenery. Much cheaper early afternoon if the heat stays away.

Expensive for Average Quality course

Another high priced Phoenix golf round for an average quality course. Staff was very friendly, but course was average. Last time I played here, the price was $75, now $144.
Greens were quick, fairways average, tee boxes were good.

45$ course max! If you pay more that’s too much!

Course was in not great shape. Greens were slow and over watered. Took 5 hours to play 18. Food was terrible at the turn. It was just not a great experience.

Repeat Customer

The day we played started out good and then the rains came causing an ended our golf for the.day! Staff was great and gave us rain checks. Course was in good shape, Greens and fair ways were excellent. I did not hit any traps although the back nine has some that can easily become a problem if you lack distance and accuracy. It is a good course to challenge your game.
