Tres Rios Golf Course at Estrella Mountain Park
About
Tres Rios GC at Estrella Mountain Park (formerly known as Estrella Mountain Golf Course) is rich with dense forestry including eucalyptus, mesquite, and pine trees as well as cottonwoods. The course has a parkland-style layout with rolling fairways lined with trees and undulating greens that are medium-sized and fast. To add more challenge to the golf course, water hazards and bunkers come into play on several holes. The par-4 seventh hole is considered the most difficult driving hole on the course. There are stately trees off the tee and the second shot is to a narrow sloping green. Tres Rios GC at Estrella Mountain Park features multiple tee boxes for a variety of different golfing options.

Biggest Dissppointment in Maricopa County.
Even for a municipal course, the condition of the greens & Fairways are horrible. It has never been in decent shape, but this is the worst I've ever seen it. A course with so much potential but thats all it can be. Might as well close it . Only good thing on the golf course. New flags. Will never play it again. Sad, sad sad.
Bad shape
Played this course last year at the same time. Wow what a difference. The course was mostly dead and every green basically was. There was even some patch work on them and that was pretty unappealing. Overall pretty disappointed in the course conditions and probably won’t be back to this course.
Yikes!
Played last year right around Thanksgiving and the course was in much better shape. I know it's a year difference but my God it's like playing a completely different course. Greens were God awful, some slow, some fast, and super sandy. Couldnt get an approach shot to bite. Fairways were 50/50 green or dead. Tee boxes were awful. Multiple holes with wrong flag colors. $30 a round is an insult.
Coming off reseed
The first thing you notice is the greens aren't green but in all fairness they were mostly well rolled and putted true. Most of the fairways were cut very short and reseed was recent but they had few problems.
Shockingly dreadful golf course
I took a relatively new golfer, who was visiting from out of town, to this golf course. I was embarrassed. I have never seen a golf course in such dreadful condition. It’s nothing more than a cow pasture. It is dusty, there is no grass in the fairways, it was hard to differentiate a green from the fairway. We were advised to keep the cart 30 yards from the greens ... why, I’d like to know?? Not like we could do any further damage. One green was quite literally half covered in sand. It is a disgrace that we were charged $30 to play here. Don’t ruin your day by considering this course. Spend an extra $10 and choose any other course in the area - I promise it will be a far better experience.
Bad Shape
We played this course last year and it was in decent shape. Thought we would try it again. Wrong assessment. Driving from the #1 tee box I knew this was not good. Dust flying everywhere. Fairways were brown greens were brown and it was apparent that this course is being starved by the lack of water. A few of the greens have areas cut out but have never been repaired, which is like having a sand trap on the green
I would say that this place is either broke or terribly mismanaged.
Disappointed
Over grown rough, for the most part the fairways are good but the greens are patchy with little and sometimes no grass. Not like other times I have played there.
This course needs some tender loving care
Overseeding fair. Fairways ok, but rough very long. Could not find ball if landing in long grass. Tee box and greens need lots if work. Lots of branches and twigs under trees. Need some cleaning up. Lost ball off ladies tee because it landed in long grass short of fairway. Even though priced low, it was pretty bad. We plaed in September after storms and lost a ball in fairway. Greens were good then. Lacking grass now.
Going out of business.... I hope.
I have played this course 100 times or so in the past 30 years... It has had numerous owners and a checkered past regarding condition and maintenance.
Today was by far the worst shape I have ever seen. This is unfortunate since this is really a great lay out designed by Red Lawrence and accommodates players of all skill levels.
Hard to say what has caused the downturn other than a weak economy or mismanagement.
It was hard for me to write this review since I have reviewed the course previously and positively... It was in fact a feature review at one time.
I am only writing for the benefit of potential customers. Lots of better places to spend your money until they find a remedy.
Save the "Sorry bout your round" reply you have been sending every reviewer for the past 6 months... Conditions are not due to recent weather issues, try again.
Last year we loved playing Tres Rios, the improvements on the course as a whole were wonderful. This year, it is the absolutely worst shape we have seen it. After two tries, it is now off our list. Some might say you get what you pay for, but we have golfed at other courses in the area for the same price bracket that were in great shape.
Good layout but poor upkeep
The greens were in terrible shape- like putting in a parking lot!
The grass next to the fairway was not just ruff but ridiculously tall- you’d lose your ball if it just rolled off fairways
Under responsible management this couse could be very nice
Course Sucks
I love this course, been playing it since the 1980's and this is the worst I've ever seen it. Rought is a foot high and the greens are Horrible. I'm never going back.
Cow pasture
I have played this course several time over the years. I like the layout and the fact there are no houses around it . It is quiet and peaceful out there out of the city. The course is in bad enough shape that it is very frustrating to play. Between the fairways for the most part is dirt and then you have these random spots of grass a foot high so you’re ball rolls through the dirt to find the tall grass. I lost more balls here than I lose on a desert course. There is no excuse for that grass to be that tall it is just that you don’t bother to mow it. The fairways and greens aren’t to bad but the hayfield between the fairways that isn’t supposed to be there is horrible.
tres rios
the course has not any money put into since last winter season. they should not have let it get so bad over the summer!!!
Same Old Course
1 star, only because the grass was green, They've got balls (pun intended) charging $25 for cart path/rough only golf. The fairways were nothing special, the greens, were only that, green. Spotty, furry, lots of bare spots on which they sprinkled green sand. We had not played here for a while and certainly remembered why, Same old tired course, so many rough patches. We will not be back and will certainly tell friends to stay away. Such a shame for what could be a real gem of a golf course.
It's not bad.
They just reopened from over seeding. Staff was great. The rough was thick and the greens were rough. Overall I had a great time.
